Located in Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Dodgers are a professional baseball franchise in the US. The Dodgers are a team in the National League West division of Major League Baseball. The team formed in Brooklyn in 1883. After initially known as the Brooklyn Bridegrooms when it joined the National League in 1890, it went through a variety of rebrandings until choosing the Dodgers moniker in 1932. From the moment they were started, the Dodgers have consistently created history. Jackie Robinson, the first African American star in the Major Leagues since 1884, made history with the Dodgers in 1947 when he made his Major League career. Although the Dodgers faced harsh criticism for it, Jackie went on to become one of their top players and change the trajectory of baseball. Dodgers founder and president Walter O'Malley moved the team to Los Angeles prior to the 1958 season after the team had played 68 seasons in Brooklyn. The team remains in Los Angeles ever since.
