About Roots
Roots is a trading Canadian company providing shoes, housewares, athletic wear, clothing, leather bags, and small leather products. The company was founded in 1973 by Don Green and Michael Budman in Toronto, Ontario. The American investment group Searchlight Finance Partners LP owned Roots in 2015. When Roots' sportswear brand launched in 1985, they started using the beaver as their logo. Robert Burns and Heather Cooper, two graphic designers, designed the logo in the 1970s. The Canadian national animal, the beaver, is shown in the symbol perched atop branches of trees. The purpose of choosing this logo was to inform consumers that Roots is a privately owned Canadian company that was created with customers in mind.
